The Office of the State Bank Commissioner regulates State-chartered depository institutions for safety and soundness and non-depository or lending institutions for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. This includes businesses that engage in consumer lending, financing the sale of motor vehicles, brokering residential mortgage loans, the selling of travelers’ checks and money orders, the transmission of money, the cashing of checks, drafts or money orders, the transportation of money and other valuables, and the writing of preened funeral contracts. The Office collects bank franchise tax and investigates complaints against State regulated financial institutions.
